Greetings from the Franschhoek Adventures office. The Summer Season has hit us with a vengeance and we are thoroughly enjoying meeting all our guests from foreign lands visiting our beautiful valley. Our tours are designed to show off our village in its best light and allow the visitors to make the most of their few short days with us, with great things to do in Franschhoek.
We have been out into the mountains and have been hiking quite a bit, especially at Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. The trails are currently being maintained and the men are widening the path for easy access. The view from the Uitkyk (look out point) is as fabulous as ever with the Wemmershoek Dam fuller than it has been in years and making a great backdrop for our resting time.
There are still some Proteas blooming although our King Proteas are still in large tight buds. They tend to bloom later in the season than those on the valley floor. The Everlastings are still out and due to our bit of rain over the past weeks, the insectivorous Sundews (Drosera) are out but probably won’t last long. They tend to disappear as soon as it gets too hot.
We also hosted a large contingent of guests from the Meet Marcel group and did a lovely hike for 40 people on the Snake Alley trail in the pouring rain! Quite an experience. This trail at the back of the Berg River Dam is great for large groups and caters for all fitness levels.
Our Meet the Locals Township Tour is always popular and we have been into Langrug a few times over the past two months. When visiting the creche we always stop at a local spaza shop and purchase some fruit for the little ones who are delighted to meet our visitors.
The most exciting news is that we have a new Adventure family member in the form of Jason Jantjies. Jason joined us on the 18th of November and is a registered guide ready and waiting to meet our guests. Jason was born in Lourensford near Villiersdorp and spent most of his childhood in Grabouw. He entered the hospitality industry in 2014 and has experience in tourism after doing his tour guide course.
Jason enjoys fishing, rugby and soccer, and enjoys working with people, a pre-requisite for a great guide! He is hoping to gain valuable experience in our industry with the view to having his own business one of these days. We welcome him gladly and wish him a fruitful and enriching time with us.
Our village is filling up daily and will soon be bursting at the seams with visitors eager to experience our unique and beautiful village and its surroundings. If you are joining us soon, be sure to book your tours and restaurant reservations well in advance or you might have to miss out, and we wouldn’t want that.
Our afternoon tours are becoming a firm favourite so do book your Sundowner Bike Wine Tour or your Sunset Fan Aloe Hike before you leave home. They are both short afternoon excursions to round off your day and you’ll be back at your accommodation in time to get ready for a stunning dinner in this, the gourmet capital of South Africa!
